THE PRACTICAL FINDING
Alabang–Calamba's July toll change adds ₱11 one way, or ₱22 there and back.

For a driver making that return journey on 20 days in a month, that adds ₱440 compared with January rates. The full toll for those journeys changes from ₱5,040 to ₱5,480. Twenty days is an example schedule, not a measured commuter average; fuel and other toll sections are extra.

This is a service-journalism explainer of a change effective 1 July 2026, not an announcement of another increase, a national cost-of-living study or a survey. Readers can change the segment and monthly driving days in the calculator.

FOUR SEPARATE SEGMENT COMPARISONS — CLASS 1
Segment | January fare one way | July fare one way | Extra there and back | Extra for 20 driving days
Alabang–Calamba | ₱126 | ₱137 | ₱22 | ₱440
Calamba–Sto. Tomas | ₱34 | ₱37 | ₱6 | ₱120
Sto. Tomas–Lipa | ₱60 | ₱64 | ₱8 | ₱160
Lipa–Batangas City | ₱53 | ₱57 | ₱8 | ₱160

One driving day means one outward journey and one return journey on the named segment. The two journeys are assumed to carry the same charge. These are separate comparisons, not a complete Alabang–Batangas trip quote.

HOW YOUR SCHEDULE CHANGES THE RESULT
Alabang–Calamba: 10 driving days adds ₱220; 20 adds ₱440; 26 adds ₱572. These are illustrative monthly schedules, not observed commuting patterns. Multiply the ₱22 return-journey increase by your own number of driving days.

APPROVED SPOKESPERSON QUOTE
“Living in the Philippines for nearly a decade has made transport costs a practical concern for me. With this study, we wanted to answer a specific question: what does a small toll increase mean when you repeat the same journey throughout the year?”

METHOD AND LIMITATIONS
January fare = official baseline in TRB's January 2026 notice.
Extra one-way toll = July fare minus January fare.
Extra return toll = one-way increase × 2.
Extra monthly toll = extra return toll × your monthly driving days.
The published 20-day example is an assumption, not an average. This is not a survey or an inferred population estimate. There are four selected segments, not a sample of commuters. No confidence interval is appropriate for exact scenario arithmetic.

Optional annual explanation: 240 round trips means 240 days of there-and-back travel over a hypothetical year (5 days × 48 weeks, or 20 days × 12 months), not 240 trips in July. At ₱22 extra per return journey, it adds ₱5,280. It is not an actual calendar-2026 bill because the increase began partway through the year; it is no longer the headline finding.

All comparisons are Class 1 and VAT-inclusive. They exclude fuel, other sections, parking, discounts, rebates and temporary waivers. This is a dated tariff comparison, not a current journey quotation or measured household spending. The optional annual toll-plus-fuel calculator uses historical presets and estimated distances; these are NOT inputs to the tariff findings.

DOWNLOADS AND REUSE
The current kit includes this brief; two 2400 × 1600 PNG charts with SVG versions (four-segment monthly costs and driving-frequency examples); a one-page SVG/PNG infographic; two calculation CSVs; and a JSON source register. The old trip-removal chart is not part of this release. Charts and calculations were produced with Python and JavaScript, not Clavio. The infographic is schematic, not a geographic map.
