Is there a car loan for freelancers?
No lender states a product, rate or rule that names freelancers. What all nine do state is a self-employed or professional applicant track, which is the category a freelancer, virtual assistant or independent contractor applies under.
EastWest states it outright: "self-employed individuals/professionals/entrepreneurs" are eligible for its auto loan on the same terms as anyone else.
A freelancer without a registered business is not automatically excluded, but every bank in this guide asks for some form of business proof. UCPB Savings comes closest to an exception.
It evaluates a self-employed applicant on the existence of the business, its address and an approximate income based on average daily balance or monthly transactions. This is rather than requiring a fixed income figure up front.
Self-employed and professional documents, bank by bank
This is what each lender actually asks for under its self-employed or professional-applicant track, drawn from the banks' own requirement pages.

|---|---|---|---|
| EastWest | DTI registration or municipal permit, submitted on approval | ITR, Certificate of Employment or Audited Financial Statements | Decision may be made within a day, complete documents |

| Security Bank | DTI or SEC registration | Latest ITR or BIR Form 2316; Audited Financial Statements, or a statement of assets, liabilities, income and expenses; 3 months of bank statements | Proof of other income, if any |

Age, income and years in business
Alongside the documents above, each bank sets its own age ceiling and, where stated, an income floor or years-in-business rule specific to self-employed applicants.
| Bank | Age limit | Income or business rule stated |
|---|---|---|
| EastWest | 21 to 70 at loan maturity | ₱40,000 a month, individual, for any applicant type |
| BPI | 18 to 70 at loan maturity | ₱30,000 a month, household; no fixed years-in-business stated |
| Security Bank | 21 to 65 at final maturity | ₱100,000 a month, joint income, subject to co-borrower guidelines (another Security Bank page states ₱40,000 for a brand-new car) |
| RCBC | 21 at application, up to 70 at maturity | Business must show profitable operation for the past 2 years |
| Maybank | Follows the standard auto loan age rule | Business in operation for at least 2 years |
| UCPB Savings | Up to 70 at loan maturity for self-employed applicants | No fixed income floor; evaluated case by case |
How to apply without a payslip
A freelancer's paper trail replaces the employed applicant's payslip with business and financial records instead. Once you know your likely loan amount, size the monthly payment on the calculator before you submit anything.
- Register your business, if you have not already
Most banks in this guide ask for DTI registration at minimum; a few accept SEC registration for a partnership or corporation instead.
- Pull your latest Income Tax Return
Every bank compared asks for the latest ITR; some also want Audited Financial Statements alongside it.
- Latest ITR
- Audited Financial Statements, where the bank asks for them
- Gather 3 to 6 months of bank statements
The exact window differs by bank: Security Bank asks for 3 months, AUB and China Bank's corporate track ask for 6.
- List your trade references
BPI and China Bank both ask for a small list of suppliers and clients who can confirm your business activity.
- Submit and wait for the decision
EastWest states a decision may come within a day once your documents are complete. Other banks in this guide do not state a self-employed-specific processing time.
If you have no DTI or business registration yet
A true freelancer working project to project has no DTI certificate and no audited financials. Most banks in this guide will find that applicant hard to qualify as a self-employed applicant.
UCPB Savings is the one lender here that evaluates income from bank activity rather than requiring registration papers up front. It still looks at whether the business has a discernible address and history.
No lender in this guide states whether income from foreign clients, paid through platforms like Upwork or PayPal, counts toward the income requirement.
Treat that as unconfirmed rather than assuming either way until a bank's loan officer answers the question directly for your application.
Other loans a freelancer can use
The SSS Salary Loan is open to self-employed members and covers cash needs, not a car purchase specifically. A one-month loan needs 36 posted contributions with 6 in the last 12 months.
Self-employed members need at least 6 posted contributions under their current coverage. It is a cash loan with no chattel mortgage on a vehicle.
Treat it as a bridge for a down payment or fees, not a substitute for the auto loan itself. A freelancer running an actual company should also compare the business-use car loan guide.
A registered corporation applies under different rules than an individual self-employed applicant.
A cash loan like the SSS Salary Loan can help cover a down payment. It cannot replace the auto loan itself. It is not secured against the car, and is capped by your posted contributions, not the vehicle's price.
Freelancer car loan claims no bank actually states
A common version of this page states that banks require 2 years of ITR and audited financials across the board. It also claims online lenders accept GCash transaction history and cooperatives offer an easier route.
None of that holds up against the actual pages. BPI asks for the latest ITR, not 2 years; Bank of Commerce asks for 1 year.
Security Bank accepts a statement of assets and liabilities as an alternative to full audited financials. GCash's Loan Finder does not list an auto loan product.
No cooperative's freelancer-specific car loan terms were found either.
