About Skyway Stage 3

Skyway Stage 3 represents one of the most transformative infrastructure projects in Philippine history, completing a decades-long vision to connect the northern and southern expressway networks without passing through congested city streets. Opened in January 2021 after six years of construction, this 18.83-kilometer elevated expressway soars above Metro Manila's dense urban fabric, crossing three cities (Makati, Manila, and Quezon City) and the Pasig River multiple times. The project's engineering feat includes massive elevated ramps rising 40+ meters at some points, creating some of the country's most dramatic highway infrastructure. Before Skyway Stage 3, motorists traveling from southern expressways (SLEX) to northern expressways (NLEX) had to traverse EDSA or C-5, frequently spending 1-2 hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic covering just 18 kilometers. Skyway Stage 3 reduces this to 15-20 minutes in normal conditions. The expressway features six major interchanges: Buendia (connecting to Skyway Stage 1), Quirino Avenue (serving Paco and Pandacan), Plaza Dilao (Malate area), Nagtahan (Santa Mesa and UST area), E. Rodriguez (Cubao and Araneta Center), and Balintawak (NLEX connection). Each interchange is grade-separated with elaborate flyover systems ensuring seamless merging. Like other Skyway sections, Stage 3 has an 80 km/h speed limit due to tighter curves and limited sight distances on elevated sections. The expressway operates 24/7 with comprehensive LED lighting, CCTV coverage every 500 meters, and regular patrol vehicles. Skyway Stage 3 has fundamentally changed travel patterns in Metro Manila, making cross-city trips viable and supporting economic integration between north and south.
