Current Conditions

CALAX (Cavite-Laguna Expressway) provides a direct route from SLEX Mamplasan to Silang, Cavite, primarily used by Tagaytay-bound travelers and Laguna-Cavite commuters.

Weekday traffic is consistently light throughout the 44.6 km expressway. The Mamplasan interchange (SLEX connection) sees some merging congestion during morning rush.

Weekend traffic is noticeably heavier, especially Saturday and Sunday mornings (7-11 AM) as families head to Tagaytay. The Silang East to Silang Interchange section becomes the bottleneck as traffic converges near the Tagaytay exit.

Summer months (March-May) see the heaviest CALAX traffic as Tagaytay is a top domestic tourism destination.

Alternate Routes

Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road

Exit SLEX at Sta. Rosa and take the scenic Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road through Silang. Free but winding and slower.

Saves CALAX toll (P70-170) but adds 20-30 min

Aguinaldo Highway via CAVITEX

Take CAVITEX to Kawit then Aguinaldo Highway to Tagaytay. Longer route but avoids CALAX weekend congestion entirely.

Key Segments & Bottlenecks

CALAX runs from the SLEX Mamplasan interchange through the Laguna-Cavite border area to Silang. The expressway opened in phases and significantly reduced travel time to Tagaytay from Manila.

The Mamplasan to Laguna Boulevard section serves commuters in the Sta. Rosa/Nuvali area with local exits. The Laguna Boulevard to Silang East section is the most scenic, passing through rolling terrain with views of the Tagaytay ridge.

The Silang East to Silang interchange is where traffic converges before the Tagaytay exit ramp. This is the primary bottleneck on weekends as vehicles queue for the local road connection to Tagaytay proper. The rest of the expressway is typically free-flowing.
