In the Philippines, treat it as a legacy connector: still useful if your car has it, but weaker for future public fast-charging access than CCS2, which is where new DC stations are being built. The honest planning move is to map the available CHAdeMO stations before any long trip.
What is CHAdeMO?
CHAdeMO is a DC fast-charging connector created around the Japanese EV ecosystem. It is DC-only and was common on early EVs, but in CCS-led markets it is being phased out gradually as networks focus on CCS2. In the Philippines it is a legacy connector, not the standard for new public DC stations.
Which EVs use CHAdeMO?
The main one in the Philippines is the older Nissan Leaf. Top Gear Philippines has noted that a Leaf at a CCS2-only Shell Recharge site could not charge there, because the Leaf uses CHAdeMO. Nissan states the Leaf has a 50 kW DC fast-charging port that can reach 80% in about 40 minutes under stated conditions.
Why CHAdeMO is harder to use here
Our directory currently lists 16 CHAdeMO stations, while most new public DC sites are CCS2. A CCS2-only fast charger will not fit a CHAdeMO car, so map the available CHAdeMO stations before any trip and keep backup AC charging in mind.
Can I use a CCS2 charger with a CHAdeMO EV?
Not directly. Adapters exist in some markets, but availability, safety, station rules, and warranty concerns make them risky here — and several networks restrict adapters outright. The safer plan is to use confirmed CHAdeMO stations and home AC charging.
Do not assume a CCS2 fast charger can charge a CHAdeMO car, and do not plan around adapters — several networks disallow them. Verify CHAdeMO station status in the operator app before you travel.

Is CHAdeMO used in the Philippines?
Yes, but only at a small number of stations. It is a legacy connector; new public DC infrastructure is being built around CCS2.
Which cars use CHAdeMO?

Can a Nissan Leaf use CCS2?
